Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria
PLANE partners with the Government of Nigeria to foster a more inclusive and effective education system. Our mission is to bring about sustainable improvements in learning outcomes for children across the country, with a focus on marginalised groups, especially girls and children with disability.
PLANE Window One works directly with subnational governments in Jigawa, Kano and Kaduna and with the Nigerian Federal government to strengthen governance systems and address blockages to quality education delivery, with specific emphasis on improving children’s foundational skills in literacy and numeracy.
PLANE Window 2 focuses on creating access to foundational learning for marginalised, conflict affected children and supporting the recovery of systems to enable their continued access and retention.
PLANE Window 3 focuses on building community support for inclusive learning for all children, especially the most marginalised children through advocacy and behavioural adaptation.
DELVe provides independent evaluation, learning and verification services to the PLANE portfolio.

PLANE works at the federal level and in five states (Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe and Borno) with legislators, state and non-state education providers, civil society organisations, teachers’ union, community leaders, learners and parents. PLANE also works in two regions, the south-east and south-west.
PLANE works closely with and in support of state and federal governments to strengthen and improve their systems, education delivery and optimising government expenditures in the education sector. The programme’s scope extends across three strategic windows of intervention, namely foundational skills development, education in emergency situations, and community-centred initiatives. It is supported by the DELVe evidence, learning and accountability function.

Every year, on October 11th, the world comes together to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child (IDG), a day dedicated to highlighting the unique challenges girls face in accessing education, empowerment opportunities, and social inclusion. This day serves as a reminder to duty bearers and stakeholders of their crucial roles in supporting girls, enabling them to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society. The theme for the 2024 IDG, "Girls’ Vision for the Future," brings into focus the importance of empowering girls, not just for their well-being, but as a vital foundation for the peace and development of society.

Mohammed is a beneficiary of a program initiated by UNICEF in equipping teachers with essential skills in the following areas; Gender-Based Violence, Psychosocial Support, Child Protection, and Responding to Emergencies. The objective of this program is to provide students with essential knowledge on self-protection during emergencies, as well as to train teachers in identifying signs of emotional imbalance in children and providing necessary care when required.

The Kano State Government, in collaboration with the UK's Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) PLANE and Arewa Consultative Forum, hosted the Education Recovery Conference on July 10th and 11th, 2024. This event brought together thought leaders, political actors, diplomats, educators, private sector players, advocates and policymakers to address significant challenges in Kano's education sector.
