Safeguarding in school is crucial for all children, but particularly for girls and children with disabilities. A safe school creates a conducive environment for all children to access quality education. When schools are safe and secure, children are more likely to attend and remain in school and are more likely to learn while they are at school, leading to better educational outcomes.
The PLANE Gender Equality and Safeguarding Team held focus group discussions with 418 children in 24 schools across Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna, to gather their experiences and views. Findings indicate there is a significant proportion of children who are subject to violence at school. Download case study to read more.
