Save the Children trained 21 village Agents across the JKK states (Jigawa, Kaduna and Kano) on Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA). The training aims to capacitate the participants with the requisite skills to enable them sensitize, mobilize, form and trained VSLA groups across their communities of implementation. The participants of the VSLA are vulnerable members of the communities, parent and caregivers of children who dropped out of school.
VSLA is a form of savings groups where 15 – 25 individuals come together, save and take loan from what they saved.
Recruitment of Village Agents: Village Agents are volunteers who are recruited at the community level to be responsible for community sensitization, mobilization, formation and training of VSLA groups at the community level. The 21 Village Agents who were recruited across the 21 communities of implementation in JKK state have formed 10 VSLA groups with 250 participants, 200 women and 50 males. Parent and caregivers of children who are attending catch up clubs will also be part of the VSLA groups.
