Stakeholders from public and private sectors recently converged on The Zone, Lagos, for the NEDIS 2022 education innovation summit, aimed at highlighting the role of innovations in solving challenges facing​ the delivery of accessible and quality education.

Education plays a pivotal role in society and it is a fundamental right of every child1. Unfortunately, certain societies are unable to fully benefit from education due to emergencies such as conflicts, pandemics, natural disasters, and other crises.

In northern Nigeria, learning achievement in the primary grades is low, with less than half of children able to read a single word. The Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), a seven-year project funded by the U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), seeks to improve learning outcomes for children in grades 1-6 and increase school enrollment. PLANE supports government partners at all levels to achieve this aim—with a goal of reaching 1.5 million learners. The early results show promising uptake and success.

Exciting developments are underway in Kaduna State as the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) collaborates with the Kaduna State Ministry of Education and State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to distribute 280,000 learning materials to 725 public primary schools, January 2023. This initiative aims to provide a solid educational foundation for children in pre-primary and primary classes one and two, with the materials designed in the Hausa language.

In Nigeria, the shortage of teachers in public schools has reached a critical level, posing a threat to the education system and the future of the country’s youth. Exciting news emerged from Kano state as the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), with the generous support of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), inaugurated an inclusive education program in the Minjibir local government area. The Community Learning Hubs, a vital component of PLANE’s intervention in Kano, marks a significant step towards building a more inclusive and effective education system in Nigeria.

A non-governmental organisation called Partnership For Learning For All In Nigeria (PLANE) in collaboration with the Kaduna State Ministry of Education and State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on Monday flagged-off distribution of 280,000 learning materials to 725 public primary schools in six local government areas in the State.
