The Community Action Cycle is Save the Children’s flagship and proven community mobilization/community capacity strengthening approach which fosters individual and collective action to address key programme goals and related outcomes.

Save the Children trained 21 village Agents across the JKK states (Jigawa, Kaduna and Kano) on Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA). The training aims to capacitate the participants with the requisite skills to enable them sensitize, mobilize, form and trained VSLA groups across their communities of implementation. The participants of the VSLA are vulnerable members of the communities, parent and caregivers of children who dropped out of school.

Save the Children trained 210 Community Based Child Protection Committee across the communities in the JKK implementation states; Jigawa, Kano and Katsina. The training was centered on empowering Participants on how best to identify, report, respond and monitor child right violations, Champion the promotion of their rights through campaigns, awareness, community meetings and advocacy in the implementing communities across the JKK state.

Education plays a pivotal role in society and it is a fundamental right of every child1. Unfortunately, certain societies are unable to fully benefit from education due to emergencies such as conflicts, pandemics, natural disasters, and other crises.

In northern Nigeria, learning achievement in the primary grades is low, with less than half of children able to read a single word. The Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), a seven-year project funded by the U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), seeks to improve learning outcomes for children in grades 1-6 and increase school enrollment. PLANE supports government partners at all levels to achieve this aim—with a goal of reaching 1.5 million learners. The early results show promising uptake and success.

Exciting developments are underway in Kaduna State as the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) collaborates with the Kaduna State Ministry of Education and State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to distribute 280,000 learning materials to 725 public primary schools, January 2023. This initiative aims to provide a solid educational foundation for children in pre-primary and primary classes one and two, with the materials designed in the Hausa language.

Exciting news emerged from Kano state as the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), with the generous support of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), inaugurated an inclusive education program in the Minjibir local government area. The Community Learning Hubs, a vital component of PLANE’s intervention in Kano, marks a significant step towards building a more inclusive and effective education system in Nigeria.
